Selena Gomez seems to have a type, with non-threatening, meticulously coiffed teen idols topping the list. Three or so months after her umpteenth split from Justin Bieber, the petite popster, 21, is being linked to Union J member George Shelley, 20, whom she had publicly encouraged to give her a call.
The British group (and "X Factor" alums) opened for Gomez during her tour stop in Portugal last week, and the London Sun claims she hit it off with Shelley while socializing after the show.
"She invited all the Union J boys and some other members of her entourage to her room, and they had a great time drinking and dancing," alleges a source. "Selena and George were all over each other, and things got very heated."
According to the tab, the pair so enjoyed spending time together that Shelley missed his flight back to London the next day with the rest of the band.
But Shelley's bandmates are quick to play down the hookup talk.
"They are just friends," JJ Hamblett tells Metro UK, with Josh Cuthbert adding of the PDA rumblings, "[George] is such a huggy person. He loves hugs. He just hugs people."
Back in June, Gomez recorded a video message to Shelley that was played during the band's appearance on a BBC music show.
"I was in London for a bit, and I'm actually really bummed I missed you," she said. "So next time, maybe give me a call?"
Four months earlier, George enthused about Selena during an interview. "I've got an undying crush on her," he sighed. "It's the whole Disney thing. I love her."
As for Bieber, he, too, is being linked to someone new. On Saturday, he was photographed in the company of his onetime flame, Jacque Rae Pyles, as they winged to Las Vegas in a private jet to catch the Floyd Mayweather-Canelo Alvarez bout.
The Biebs was briefly entangled with the aspiring singer-dancer in 2009, not long before he began dating Gomez. Last month, he reportedly had dinner with Pyles on the night of the MTV VMAs, and the two were also spied at New York Fashion Week.
Fan backlash against Pyles has been swift, especially after she posted a photo that appears to show her on Justin's jet. She thanked one fan who complimented her on the way she's "handling all this hate."
