Failure to launch? The livestream Justin Bieber scheduled for fans during Sunday night's Grammy Awards didn't quite get off the ground due to some technical difficulties.
The tech-savvy 18-year-old pop star, who hosted Saturday Night Live the previous evening, on Saturday, Feb. 9, originally promised fans a livestream performance at 8 p.m., but a few minutes into the web-hosted event, it was clear there were issues.
"Livestream is over capacity it not letting me in the room give me a second lol," he tweeted. A few minutes later, Bieber decided to try something different.
"Since nothing is working and I'm super upset I feel I gotta make it up to u," he wrote to fans. "I should post a new song on twitter so you can still be excited."
The "As Long As You Love Me" singer chose not to attend this year's awards ceremony after he failed to receive any nominations.
"I think they blew it," his mother, Pattie Mallette, told Alexa Chung during a sit-down interview with FuseTV. "It's my boy, I'm a little biased. I just heard that he's now had five No. 1 albums, so I think his music is speaking for itself."
"I think it's kind of good in a way," she continued. "It gives him something to strive for and a goal to go for."
On Saturday's episode of the NBC sketch comedy show, Bieber poked fun at himself in a series of skits, including one in which he called himself a "douche" to Vanessa Bayer's Miley Cyrus.
"I also heard he got busted for smoking weed and he's really sorry about it and people make mistakes and he's never gonna do it again," he deadpanned.
