It's been nearly a decade since Jamie Lynn Spears retreated from Hollywood at age 17 after she gave birth to her daughter, Maddie, in June 2008. But now Britney's kid sister is back in a major, major way.

In addition to releasing her new country single "Sleepover" this week, the former Nickelodeon child star also headlined a TLC documentary, "Jamie Lynn Spears: When the Lights Go Out," on June 25.

But boy did she shine a light on her past as a teen mom!

The singer-actress even revealed how she found out she was pregnant in a gas station bathroom after she became ill in front of a friend who encouraged her to take a pregnancy test.

"We didn't want to do it at home, so I went in the BP [gas station] and I took a pregnancy test," recalled the "How Could I Want More" singer, who asked her friend to read the results.

Even after her pal started freaking out, it took Jamie Lynn a minute to realize the truth -- "I was like, 'What? What? What?'" she says.

The "Zoey 101" star also dished on the impossible task of telling her parents that she was expecting a child. Rather than telling them face-to-face, she left a note in her mother's room.

"For me, the world stopped a couple seconds," said Jamie Spears, who also appeared in his daughter's TLC doc. "It was a total shock."

The family now faced the prospect that Jamie Lynn's career could be over. With an entire unaired season of "Zoey 101" in the can, it was unclear whether or not Nickelodeon would move forward with a kids show starring an actress whose reality did not match her good girl on-screen image. (Ultimately, Nickelodeon did not move forward with a fifth season of the series, though they maintain that the decision was based on the cast's noticeable aging and not on its star's pregnancy.)

Still, giving up her baby was never an option for Britney Spears' little sister.

"At the end of the day, I knew I had to make a decision as a young girl myself to do something that I could sleep with every night," she says. "I knew deep down that I was going to have my little girl, even if I had to raise her on my own, and that's what I did."

So she hid at home for three weeks with two security guards as tabloids broke the story that she was with child -- "It was a real scandal situation at the time," she recalls. She then purchased land for a home and put "a big a-- gate around it."

Now that she'd officially retreated from Hollywood, it was time to make the transition from child star to mother.

"I was a child then," says Jamie Lynn. "I needed to grow up."

It was then that the singer-actress came to the conclusion that her childhood sweetheart and the father of her child, Casey Aldridge, may not be the one for her.

The duo, who met at church when he was 16 and she was 14 and were briefly engaged, called it quits in late 2009 when their daughter was jut 19 months old.

"I just knew it was going to be forever until it wasn't forever," she says.

"He tried to do the right thing and he asked me to marry him and we were engaged for a while, but I think I realized rushing into something that's not right is ultimately going to be worse," adds the country cutie. (Though the former couple maintain a relationship to co-parent their daughter, Jamie Lynn has primarily custody.)

Not long after the breakup, she moved on with Jamie Watson, whom she wed in 2014 after an off-and-on courtship of five years.

Now Jamie Lynn Spears is so much more than a teen mom or Britney's sis, she's also a loving wife, devoted mother and freshly minted country star!
