On Aug. 24, 2023 — 10 days after a grand jury issued an indictment accusing former President Donald Trump of attempting to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia after he lost to President Joe Biden, marking his fourth criminal indictment in a matter of months — the Republican politician surrendered to authorities at Atlanta's Fulton County Jail (see his mugshot and read his response next).
The charges — including felony racketeering and multiple conspiracy claims — were brought by Georgia's Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (pictured). Eighteen of the Republican presidential nominee frontrunner's allies and associates, including attorneys Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman plus White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, were also indicted in the probe of alleged attempts to subvert the 2020 election results.
On Aug. 21, the former reality star was incredulous about his looming surrender in a post on his Truth Social platform: "Can you believe it? I'll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis, who is overseeing one of the greatest Murder and Violent Crime DISASTERS in American History. In my case, the trip to Atlanta is not for 'Murder,' but for making a PERFECT PHONE CALL! She campaigned, and is continuing to campaign, and raise money on, this WITCH HUNT. This is in strict coordination with Crooked Joe Biden's DOJ. It is all about ELECTION INTERFERENCE!" he wrote.

After Donald Trump was booked in Atlanta's Fulton County Jail on Aug. 24 — his fourth criminal arrest of 2023, this time in a racketeering case in which he's been accused of conspiring to reverse his 2020 election loss in Georgia — Georgia's Fulton County Sheriff's Office released this mug shot of the Republican politician.
His booking was speedy: According to reports, it only took 20 minutes before he exited the jail and left for the airport, where he briefly spoke to reporters on the tarmac, telling them the charges are a "travesty of justice." He also insisted, "you should be able to challenge an election."
After being processed and posting a $200,000 bond, he was listed in the Fulton County booking system as having "blonde or strawberry" hair, standing 6 foot 3 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds. (According to The New York Times, that's 24 pounds less than the White House doctor reported he weighed in 2018.) Media outlets confirmed that the politician self-reported his stats to the jail.

On Aug. 21, Donald Trump made light of the bail bond he was expected to pay when he surrendered to Georgia authorities in Atlanta on Thursday, Aug. 24: "The failed District Attorney of Fulton County (Atlanta), Fani Willis, insisted on a $200,000 Bond from me. I assume, therefore, that she thought I was a 'flight' risk – I'd fly far away, maybe to Russia, Russia, Russia, share a gold domed suite with Vladimir, never to be seen or heard from again. Would I be able to take my very 'understated' airplane with the gold TRUMP affixed for all to see. Probably not, I'd be much better off flying commercial – I'm sure nobody would recognize me!" he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The day he was indicted in Georgia, Donald Trump posted this message: "So, the Witch Hunt continues! 19 people Indicated tonight, including the former President of the United States, me, by an out of control and very corrupt District Attorney who campaigned and raised money on, 'I will get Trump.' And what about those Indictment Documents put out today, long before the Grand Jury even voted, and then quickly withdrawn? Sounds Rigged to me! Why didn't they Indict 2.5 years ago? Because they wanted to do it right in the middle of my political campaign. Witch Hunt!"
He also vowed that on Aug. 21, he would release a report that would exonerate him, writing on Truth Social: "A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete & will be presented by me at a major News Conference at 11:00 A.M. on Monday of next week [Aug. 21] in Bedminster, New Jersey. Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me & others – There will be a complete EXONERATION! They never went after those that Rigged the Election. They only went after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!"
However, on Aug. 17, Donald canceled those plans, writing on Truth Social, "Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment by a publicity & campaign finance seeking D.A., who sadly presides over a record breaking Murder & Violent Crime area, Atlanta. Therefore, the News Conference is no longer necessary!"

"I think we're into completely unchartered territory and anything is possible. The sheer scale & severity of these latest charges is astounding. "They're criminalizing the 1st Amendment. They're criminalizing routine legal work. They're bulldozing over due process rights. They're openly interfering in an election. These psychopaths would happily destroy everything that makes our nation great just to 'get Trump,'" Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X in the wake of his father's fourth indictment. He later added, "Are we living in the United States of America or Communist China? It's becoming harder to tell the difference," and claimed, "They violated my father's due process rights, tainted the Grand Jury, and then lied thru their teeth about it."

"Americans value our freedoms – our freedom to elect leaders who respect our will, protect our interests and govern in our name. Now, multiple grand juries of everyday Americans across races, backgrounds, and parties have indicted the former MAGA President many times over for his criminal conspiracy to overthrow the will of the people, from inciting supporters to deadly violence on January 6th to asking government officials in Georgia to falsify votes. Yet the MAGA Republicans in office today who supported, schemed and covered up for him want to overturn our legal system to allow him to evade consequences, while they carry on this criminal conspiracy and seize power unchecked. From the House of Representatives to the Supreme Court to state legislatures, they want to take away our freedoms and rule for the wealthy few. We must come together and demand that anyone who aided, abetted or excused the MAGA criminal conspiracy be held accountable so we can make this a place where our leaders honor their oaths, protecting our country and our freedoms." –Alyssa Milano

"Justice should be blind, but Biden has weaponized government against his leading political opponent to interfere in the 2024 election. "The fourth indictment of Donald Trump, just like the three which came before it, portrays a repeated pattern of criminal activity by the former president," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said in a joint statement. "This latest indictment details how Mr. Trump led a months-long plot pushing the Big Lie to steal an election, undermine our democracy, and overturn the will of the people of Georgia. The actions taken by the Fulton County District Attorney, along with other state and federal prosecutors, reaffirms the shared belief that in America no one, not even the president, is above the law. As a nation built on the rule of law, we urge Mr. Trump, his supporters, and his critics to allow the legal process to proceed without outside interference." –Chuck Schumer / Hakeem Jeffries

"The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen. For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward — under oath — and prove anything in a court of law. Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus." –Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp
