It's finally here!
Within days of its release, the trailer for the new Prime Video movie "The Idea of You" — featuring songs from August Moon, the boy band whose young lead singer forges a relationship with a much older art gallery owner in the film — had made history: Deadline reported that it racked up 125 million global views across all social media platforms, breaking the record to become the most watched trailer for any original streaming movie.
Then the Amazon Original movie itself premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 16 (see all the best photos here).
Now the film — which features a different ending than the 2017 book of the same name by actress and author Robinne Lee, on which it's based — is out for all to watch: It debuted on Prime Video on May 2 to fantastic reviews.
Prime Video sums up the project, which was directed by Michael Showalter from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jennifer Westfeldt, like this:
"'The Idea of You' centers on Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter's trip to the Coachella Music Festival after her ex bails at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an instant, undeniable spark. As they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn't long before Hayes' superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for."
