According to royal author
Omid Scobie,
Prince Harry made a major effort to patch up his feud with
Prince William. "When I wrote my last book [
Endgame] I was having conversations with people very close to Harry, and one of the things that were shared with me was that Harry had reached out to an intermediary, kind of mutual friend between himself and his brother, hoping that would allow them to have some kind of conversation together, maybe with someone present, or through whatever channel," he told
Us Weekly.

However, a reunion between
Prince Harry and
Prince William didn't materialize. "It didn't happen. It wasn't received in any way whatsoever and so from what I see now from the outside, it looks like that stone wall is still up. Unless the attitudes change on both sides, we're never going to find any way to resolution," Omid Scobie said.

The rift between
Prince Harry and
Prince William deepened when the Duke of Sussex and
Meghan Markle left The Firm in 2020. "I think William has distanced himself from Harry a lot more than people realize," former royal butler
Paul Burrell told
Fox News Digital. "Because William's path is very different from Harry's. As he gets nearer and nearer to the throne, which will be in a few years, he has to remain isolated. He has to be in a world that is very tight and protected."

Paul Burrell claimed the lack of trust between
Prince William and
Prince Harry influenced the future king of England to keep his brother at a distance. "He can't let things leak out," he said. "He doesn't want to live in a world with a leaky sieve. He doesn't want to live in a world that can't be controlled because, to be a monarch, you have to control the environment. You have to look after the crown."

In
Prince Harry's 2023 memoir
Spare, he shockingly referred to
Prince William as his "archnemesis" throughout his life. "There has always been this competition between us, weirdly. I think it really plays into, or was played by, the 'heir/spare,' and the British press' part in that. They pitched the Waleses — of which
Kate [Middleton] and William are now — against the Sussexes, me and my wife [Meghan Markle]," the Duke of Sussex said during an interview on
Good Morning America. "They've always pitched us against each other. They pitched Kate and Meghan against each other."
