He was asked, "You are gay. Right, David?" Stiers answered, "Yes, I am. Very proud to be so."
Considering the actor is now 67 years old and his "M*A*S*H" years have passed some 25 years ago, GossipBoy asks why he kept it private for so long.
He explains, "There are two reasons really. One is that I enjoy working and even though many have this idealistic belief that the entertainment industry and studios like Walt Disney are gay friendly [sic]. For the most part they are, but that doesn't mean for them that business does not come first. It's a matter of economics."
We'd like to think Hollywood is progressive, but considering he played Major Charles Emerson Winchester III, this might have posed a problem for him. We've heard that gays in the military are something of a controversy.
He also says he's looking for love, saying, "I wish to spend my life's twilight being just who I am. I could claim noble reasons as coming out in order to move gay rights forward, but I must admit it is for far more selfish reasons. Now is the time I wish to find someone and I do not desire to force any potential partner to live a life of extreme discretion with me."
We'll be standing by for Miss California's enraged commentary on this shocking story.
