As the president continues to make headlines for his bold tariffs, on Tuesday, April 8, Trump got out on the lawn of the
White House armed with a gold shovel to help dig the hole for the replacement for a historical tree.

The
White House shared the footage of Donald Trump getting his hands dirty with the golden shovel on X. "We have a beautiful tree now at the White House," the commander-in-chief said in the video.
Grounds Superintendent
Dale Haney also appeared in the clip as Trump dug into the earth. "Dale's been here 53 years. He's fantastic," the right-wing leader boasted about the staffer.

Per the National Park Service website, President
Andrew Jackson planted the tree 200 years ago in honor of his late wife,
Rachel, who passed away shortly before he took
office.
On Sunday, March 30, the tree — known as the Jackson Magnolia — Donald Trump announced the landmark was in "terrible condition, a very dangerous safety hazard, at the White House Entrance, no less and must now be removed."
The magnolia sits near the west side of the South Portico of the White House where the president welcomes guests and exits to board the Marine One helicopter.

According to the White House, Consulting Arborist and member of the American Society of Consulting Arborists
Peter Hart decided to replace the tree because it "surpassed the time of serving as an aesthetic and historic landmark due to the potential harm it may cause because of the risk of structural failure."
The removal of the evergreen needed to be done quickly, in order "to eliminate the risk of personal injury and/or property
damage."

Bill Ackman came out strongly against the tariffs and
warned people about how it will affect them.
"The consequences for our country and the millions of our citizens who have supported the president — in particular low-income consumers who are already under a huge amount of economic stress — are going to be severely negative," the billionaire said on X. "This is not what we voted for. Alternatively, we are heading for a self-induced, economic nuclear winter and we should start hunkering down."
