Transportation Secretary
Sean Duffy is warning that states refusing to comply with federal immigration enforcement risk losing critical infrastructure funding.
The message follows President
Donald Trump's recent targeting of Democrat-run cities, promising mass deportations. Duffy echoed that stance, putting state leaders on notice to cooperate or lose federal dollars.

On Monday, June 16, Sean Duffy doubled down on the administration's position, making it clear that the U.S. Department of Transportation would cut funding to non-compliant states.
"The USDOT [Department of Transportation] will NOT fund rogue state actors who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement," Duffy wrote
on X. "And to cities that stand by while rioters destroy transportation infrastructure — don't expect a red cent from DOT, either. Follow the law, or forfeit the funding."

President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned sanctuary states that failure to comply with federal immigration efforts could come at a high cost.
Over the years, the federal government has poured billions into state infrastructure.
In 2023 alone, Washington reportedly spent $44.8 billion on infrastructure projects, including $81.5 billion in transfers to state governments. Emergency disaster relief funding also remains a part of that support.

President Donald Trump's latest threats come amid a surge in ICE raids across the country, especially in Los Angeles.
"ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History," the president wrote on
Truth Social on Sunday, June 15.
Trump announced that his efforts aren't slowing down — he now plans to target some of the largest cities in America including Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.
"These, and other such Cities, are the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base," he claimed.
