After the very public end of Elon Musk and Donald Trump's friendship, a source claimed to Reuters on Thursday, June 12, that the government is taking another look at the $22 billion in federal contracts with SpaceX.When asked for comment on the report, a White House spokesperson clarified that the "Trump administration is committed to a rigorous review process for all bids and contracts."
A representative for NASA claimed the agency "will continue to work with our industry partners to ensure the president's objectives in space are met."
The current commander-in-chief confirmed the investigation into the matter during an interview on Air Force One on Friday, June 6, adding, "We'll take a look at everything."

According to the insider, the potential move by Donald Trump's administration against Elon Musk's SpaceX is "for political ammunition."
Despite the report, it has not been confirmed whether or not the federal government could legally cancel existing contracts with the company that has aided them in aerospace and defense work.
Contracting expert and General Counsel at the Project on Government Oversight, Scott Amey, claims Musk is at risk of having a taste of his own medicine with the government evaluation. "There's an irony here that Musk's contracts could be under the same type of subjective political scrutiny that he and his DOGE team have put on thousands of other contracts," he said. "Any decision shouldn't be based on the egos of two men but on the best interests of the public and national security."

When Elon Musk left his special job with the Department of Government Efficiency in May, his dynamic with Donald Trump imploded after the tech mogul slammed the right-wing leader's support of the "One Big, Beautiful" tax bill."I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore," Musk wrote in a Tuesday, June 3, post shared to X. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."
On Thursday, June 5, the Telsa founder continued to criticize Trump. "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate. Such ingratitude," he penned in the update.

Donald Trump fired back at Elon Musk over his slights at the potential legislation. "I think, actually, Elon brought out the strengths of the bill because people that weren't as focused started focusing on it, and they see how good it is," the U.S. leader said during a Saturday, June 7, interview with NBC News' Kristen Welker."So in that sense, there was a big favor," he added. "But I think Elon, really, I think it's a shame that he's so depressed and so heartbroken."
