Former "American Idol" contestant Elliott Yamin is tweeting from Chile about having survived the massive earthquake that struck Saturday, calling it the scariest night and morning of his life.

"Huge earthquake just now in Chile!! ... I swear I thought this was the end of my life!!!!!" Yamin initially tweeted.

"Complete and utter choas on the streets...no power," he subsequently described. "...My heart is beatin' outta my chest!"

"Hey everybody...we [are] totally safe and sound [for] the time being. ... I'm finally calmer, and dawn is approaching, which will help!" he later tweeted.

"Scariest night/morn of my life!!" he added, noting that he'd felt about 30 aftershocks.
