Democratic Senator Chris Murphy was not impressed with CNN's reporting on President Donald Trump's ongoing discussions with Ukraine.
During the Tuesday, February 25, broadcast of The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer welcomed the politician to address how the American commander-in-chief and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly finalized negotiations on a rare earth mineral deal. However, Murphy confronted the journalists about how they presented the information to their viewers.

Before welcoming Murphy into the episode, Blitzer spoke with reporter Nick Paton Walsh and questioned him about the contentious dynamic between Trump and Zelensky after the businessman allegedly wanted to make the mineral deal a payment for U.S. taxpayers for helping Ukraine's defensive war against Russia.
"Look, I mean, it's important to point out we don't have full transparency as to what the White House says they've agreed to at this point," Walsh explained.

"They reframed it to, as they described it to us yesterday, as a reconstruction deal for Ukraine, saying that the finalized draft yesterday that was sent didn't contain the security guarantees that Ukraine wanted but had also taken out some of the thornier items that had been asked for them by the Trump administration, leaving some of those ugly details for later discussions," the correspondent said.
When Blitzer welcomed Murphy, he gave critical notes about saying the public doesn't know what Trump wants out of the situation. "Senator, thanks so much for joining us. What's your reaction, first of all, to this apparent deal between the Trump administration and Ukraine that would grant the U.S. access to its rare earth minerals in return for U.S. involvement in a reconstruction fund for Ukraine?" the television star asked.

"Well, Wolf, I have a lot of respect for your reporters, but this notion that we don't know what Trump is doing is nonsense," the right-wing leader boldly stated.
"Donald Trump has been very consistent for years. He does not want to support Ukraine's bid for independence and he and the people that work for him increasingly are literally just spinning Kremlin propaganda," Murphy alleged.

On Wednesday, December 26, Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal claimed the minerals deal was finalized with the United States.
During a television appearance via the BBC, the official alleged American leaders were "supporting Ukraine's efforts to obtain security guarantees needed to build lasting peace."

The day before, The Apprentice alum told the press if the deal went through, Ukraine would get "the right to fight on" in exchange.
"They're very brave," Trump said while adding, "Without the United States and its money and its military equipment, this war would have been over in a very short period of time."
