Donald Trump recently appointed a Texas-based donut shop owner to be the U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica.

Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday, February 6, to congratulate Melinda Hildebrand on the achievement.
"I am pleased to announce that Melinda Hildebrand will serve as the next United States Ambassador to Costa Rica," Trump penned.

Hildebrand made a name for herself in Houston, Texas, and owns a pastry goods shop in the southern city.
"Melinda is an incredibly successful businesswoman and philanthropist, who serves as the Vice Chair of the Hildebrand Foundation, and Vice President of Hilcorp Ventures Inc.," Trump told his fans. "She is also the President and Owner of the popular River Oaks Donuts. She will fight tirelessly to protect America's Interests abroad, especially in Trade and Immigration."

Critics accused the president of giving high-profile positions to his campaign supporters.
"Trump rewards MAGA billionaire donor Melinda Hildebrand with an ambassadorship to Costa Rica," one person wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "The oligarchy continues on."
While some X users were vocal about their disappointment, others celebrated Trump's pick.
"Congratulations, Ambassador Hildebrand," someone commented.
"River oaks donuts are fire," another revealed.
Trump promised to employ the best and the brightest and dismantle DEI programs within the federal government.
