According to
Daily Express columnist
Mieka Smiles, Meghan Markle's interview with
Fortune magazine highlighted why people in England are critical of her. "A lot of her terrible press is brought on by her total inability to tell the truth about who she is. Because here in Britain we value truth-tellers," she wrote. "Which is why Meghan's shtick has worn out so quickly."

During Meghan Markle's appearance at
Fortune's Most Powerful Women event, she claimed she and
Prince Harry focused on "nesting and healing" when they left England in 2020, which didn't sit well with the writer. "Heal from what precisely? The public backlash after chucking the whole of the royal family under the bus?" Mieka Smiles questioned.

Mieka Smiles also called out Meghan Markle's pretentious attitude. "The awful way that she tries to adopt what she thinks is female founder lingo, using cringe corporate-speak like SKUs, origin stories and hero products. But in reality, all people want to hear is the truth in plain English," the royal expert said.

The expert believes if Meghan Markle acknowledged her company's advantage, she could gain public support. "What would have been so much more refreshing is if she had walked out and said, 'Do you know what? I made jam in my kitchen. I've had a lot of help developing a brand and now I'm doing my best to learn the business. I know there are countless women who aren't in the privileged position that I am,'" Mieka Smiles said.
