Lil Wayne's fate is in the hands of a judge after pleading guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Last month, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged the rapper with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon after a handgun was found in his luggage while aboard a private jet at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport on December 23, 2019.
Authorities at the time had been tipped off that the plane may have been transporting drugs. During the search of the private plane, Wayne told officials he had a gun in his bag. According to TMZ, they found a gold-plated Remington 1911, .45-caliber handgun loaded with six rounds of ammunition. A bag containing personal use amounts of cocaine, ecstasy and oxycodone was also found, TMZ says.
"There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it. There is no allegation that he is a dangerous person," Wayne's lawyer said last month. "The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm."

On Dec. 11, Wayne — who was convicted of a felony gun charge in New York back in 2009 — pleaded guilty to the new charge, and the sentencing is set for next month in Miami.
Because of the plea, Wayne is expected to get leniency. Still, the final decision is left up to the judge.
He faces up to 10 years in prison if the judge really throws the book at him.
