Travis Barker never felt the urge to fly for well over a decade, but then Kourtney Kardashian went from being a close friend to a lover. After that, Travis had a different perspective and felt on top of the world.
The "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star is the sole reason he boarded a plane last month for the first time in 13 years.
"I'm invincible when I'm with her," the Blink-182 drummer told Nylon in a new interview. "It's just like I never dreamed, I never even considered flying again."
Travis had good reason to never step foot on a flight again. Back in 2008, the private plane carrying the rocker crashed upon takeoff in South Carolina. His friends Chris Baker and Charles "Che" Still were killed, as were the two pilots. Travis and pal Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein escaped the engulfed plane, but the father-of-two was burned on 65 percent of his body. He spent three months in the hospital and underwent 26 surgeries and countless skin grafts. One year after the crash, DJ AM died of an overdose.
The last remaining survivor of the crash, Travis quickly proclaimed he would never step foot on an airplane again. However, in June 2021 he publicly declared that he was considering going airborne again, even revealing that he struck a deal with someone and vowed to fly with them.
At the time, he didn't say who the mystery person was. We now know that that was Kourtney.
In mid August, Travis flew to Mexico with his lady love — the flight, he now says, was "the easiest ever." Less than two weeks later, they jetted off to Italy together.
"I didn't even know I was going," he said of the Mexican trip. "I made a deal with her that she had just said to me, 'I would love to do so much traveling with you. I want to go to Italy with you. I want to go to Cabo with you. I want to go to Paris with you. I want to go to Bora Bora with you.' And I said, 'Well, when the day comes you want to fly, I'm telling you I'll do it with you. I would do anything with you. And just give me 24 hours' notice.' And that's what she did."
The day before the trip, which was documented on Instagram, Travis said he did breathing exercises.
"It's still something very new to me," he says of flying, "but having something that gives me the strength and hope to be able to overcome things that were so traumatic in my life, it just says a ton. [Kourtney] is definitely that for me."
