Bill Maher Rants About Gen Z
On the Friday, May 9, edition of Real Time with Bill Maher, the comedian delivered another passionate rant about everything he perceived as wrong with Generation Z and liberals.Bill Maher, known for his anti-woke commentary, took issue with the younger generation's attitudes, specifically criticizing their admiration for political groups like Hamas. In a sharp monologue, Maher urged parents to speak to their children, saying, "Talk to your children, and remind them you don't really wanna live like your heroes in Hamas."
He continued by highlighting the contradictions in the way young people criticize America while benefiting from its products, such as smartphones and delivery services, adding, "All the s*** you do all day, it was all made in America."

Maher Compares Gen Z to a Character from The White Lotus
Bill Maher went on to make a pop culture comparison to further emphasize his point, referencing The White Lotus. He quipped, "Please! You couldn't survive a week living in Intifada-ville. You're like the girl from The White Lotus who was going to live in a Buddhist monastery and then lasted one night."
This remark was a nod to Sarah Catherine Hook's character, Piper Ratliff, from the hit HBO series who embarks on a spiritual journey in Season 3, only to leave almost immediately.
Maher used this as an example of Gen Z's perceived lack of resilience and commitment to their ideologies.
Maher Criticizes Diversity in Media and LGBTQ Issues
Later in the episode, Bill Maher continued his criticism of what he sees as a growing trend in progressive values. He voiced his displeasure with diverse TV commercials, which he believes pander to a particular audience. Maher also recycled one of his favorite talking points about LGBTQ people's economic success, saying, "Yes, in America, gays buy buildings. In other places, they get thrown off them."
Maher's Take on Liberals and Gen Z Ideologies
Bill Maher continued by targeting what he sees as a failure within the liberal movement, particularly in relation to the influence of younger generations on political ideologies."Liberals are weak and woke, especially the white ones. And they indulge all sorts of nonsense from their kids, a problem that then continues on in the Democratic party," Maher said.
He argued that liberals need to challenge the "dumb ideas" that come from their children, suggesting that the left is too accommodating to the younger generation's perceived radical views.
David Hogg Responds to Maher's Comments
During the episode, Bill Maher was joined by David Hogg, the Gen Z gun control activist who survived the Parkland school shooting in 2018.Hogg, who advocates for fresh perspectives within the Democratic Party, responded thoughtfully to Maher's generalization about young people. "It's not just a matter of age, to be clear," Hogg explained. "As you know, Bill, there are young people who s***, just as much as there are old people who s***. It's not that simple to just say if you're above a certain age, you shouldn't be there."
Some saw Hogg's response as a highlight of the complexity of generational issues in politics, pushing back on Maher's tendency to stereotype younger activists.
Social Media Reactions
Some social media users defended Bill Maher's critique of Gen Z, agreeing that younger generations often fail to recognize the privileges they enjoy. One user tweeted on X, "Bill Maher is right — how many Gen Z kids complain about the system, yet everything they have comes from it?"
Others criticized Maher's remarks, calling him out for generalizing and being out of touch. "Bill Maher is stuck in the past. Gen Z is the future, and we won't be told what to think by the likes of him," wrote one user.
