On Friday, July 11, Los Angeles Mayor
Karen Bass signed an executive order aimed at supporting immigrant communities that includes a plan for cash assistance. This latest plan comes in response to President
Donald Trump's administration ramping up immigration enforcement targeting undocumented residents in the U.S.

As federal immigration raids continue across Southern California, Mayor Bass is launching a new initiative that includes filing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to demand more transparency. "There is a need for me to have an executive directive to help our city understand how to protect itself from our federal government," Bass said during a press conference. Her order requires federal agents to disclose records related to the raids — including who was detained, why they were detained and how much it cost taxpayers.

Karen Bass' executive order also directs city departments to develop updated protocols and training that align with Los Angeles' sanctuary city ordinance. She also confirmed that financial support is coming soon. Cash cards worth a "couple hundred" dollars will reportedly be distributed through immigrant rights groups in the coming weeks. According to Bass, the payments will not come from city taxpayers but from philanthropic partners.

However, not everyone is on board with Karen Bass' latest initiative. A White House spokesperson criticized the move, calling it a "pathetic stunt" by Democratic politicians. "Recent immigration enforcement in California has resulted in successfully detaining countless violent criminals and liberating children from illegal labor exploitation. But instead of helping these children or putting American citizens first, Bass is doubling down on her defense of illegal aliens," they told Fox News Digital, adding that "Americans are sick of these pathetic stunts from Democrat politicians" and "that's why they elected President Donald Trump."
