According to the U.S. Northern Command, service members will support the organization to provide "enhanced sustainment, engineering, medical, and operational capabilities as part of the Department of Defense's continued whole-of-government approach to gain full operational control of the southern border."_
Almost half of the military personnel deployed to the border are associated with engineering companies, battalions and brigades and will be responsible for carrying out construction-related tasks.Aside from using the military, Donald Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," which was approved by the House of Representatives on Thursday, May 22, set aside $175 billion for border security, with $46.5 billion of that budget allocated for building a new wall at the border.
