As the daughter of two actors (and the granddaughter of showbiz vet John Barrymore), Drew Barrymore didn't have the most traditional upbringing. But what her life lacked in normalcy then, she's making up for now with husband Will Kopelman and his family.
Speaking with C Magazine about her yearlong marriage, the Big Miracle actress says she feels like she got lucky -- not just with her art consultant spouse but also with his parents. (Kopelman's dad is former Chanel CEO Arie Kopelman.)
"I won the in-laws jackpot," she tells the mag of her husband's close-knit clan, which now includes her and daughter Olive, 8 months. "It might be the best karma for having one of the wackiest upbringings. I never had dinner with my mom or dad, let alone together."
The concept of a family meal was so foreign to the star, in fact, that she initially wanted to just do away with the couple's dining room. "I told [Will], 'Dining rooms are stupid. They shouldn't exist. When was the last time we had a dinner party?'" she explains to the mag. "I wish we were those people who threw seasonal cocktail parties for our friends -- 'he owns a coffee place in Brooklyn and she works as a stylist.' But we will never be that couple."
Kopelman suggested, however, that they could be a couple who ate together and with their child -- a novel idea for Barrymore. "Family dinners would never have occurred to me, and that's what I want most," she tells C Magazine. "Now it's my life mission to figure out this room."
