After playing at massive venues for thousands of fans while opening for country hit-makers like Jason Aldean, country duo Florida Georgia Line are warming up for their first headlining tour, which kicks off in January, with a hosting gig! Singers Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard are set to emcee and perform at the American Country Countdown Awards, a two-hour show honoring the year's best country music, airing live from Nashville, Tenn., on Dec. 15 on Fox. 2015 will be a banner year for the country singers, especially for Tyler, as Brian reveals to Wonderwall.com that his bandmate is headed for the altar this summer. As FGL prepare to anchor the inaugural broadcast, the twosome talked wedding plans, advice on married life and hitting the road.
Wonderwall: You've got the performing thing down at this point, but hosting is a new gig for you. Are you nervous?
Tyler Hubbard: "We're just excited. There's a little bit of nerves just because it's something new. I think the excitement overtakes the nervousness. We've been practicing and reading over the script just trying to prepare so we can be ourselves and have fun with it."
WW: Will you insert some of your own jokes or will you stick to the script?
Tyler Hubbard: "We've been co-writing a little bit and editing so it fits who we are. We have definitely come in with some ideas and jokes. It's cool for us to get into a different creative zone. And freakin' Hank Williams Jr. is going to be there so that's unreal!"
WW: You'll be kicking off the New Year with your own headlining tour. Any tour must-haves?
Tyler Hubbard: "For our first headlining tour we are going to go as big as we possibly can. We've been looking forward to this for a while. The more lights and the more smoke the better."
WW: Special requests for your dressing rooms?
Tyler Hubbard: "Just as long as it has some Fireball Whisky and Jack Daniels, some music ...
Brian Kelley: "Lay's Potato Chips!"
Tyler Hubbard: "To help texturize the vocal chords a little bit. And we like to have our girls around."
WW: So Tyler, your fiancee Haley Stommel, and Brian, your wife Brittney Marie, will be on tour with you guys. Family affair! But before the tour gets going we have to get through New Year's Eve. How will you celebrate with your girls?
Tyler Hubbard: "We're going to be doing New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest in New York City. So that is going to be a hell of a party. It's a dream come true to be a part of that night. Being able to watch the ball drop from there, it's going to be a magical night."
WW: Tyler, you became in engaged in February. How involved have you been in the wedding planning, or is it your fiancee Haley's show?
Tyler Hubbard: "It's pretty much her show, but I am involved in it. We've got quite a bit of it planned out. It's going to be a cool wedding."
WW: What do you need on your big day?
Tyler Hubbard: "My closest friends and family, a good DJ and we should be set!"
WW: Back on the subject of music, what do you listen to, to get ready to hit the stage?
Tyler Hubbard: "Drake or Wiz Khalifa, Lil Wayne. I guess it just gets you in a good head space. Gets you ready to do your thing and get focused and pumped."
WW: Brian, you tied the knot last December, any advice for your pal on married life?
Brian Kelley: "Yeah, we talk about it all the time. I just tell him to enjoy it when it happens and soak up every minute and it's great. People sometimes put a negative connotation on marriage, but I think for me and my wife we enjoy it. We love every second of it. You do have to work at it. It's real life and we're real people and things happen and it's cool to share your life with somebody that you love and you care about and when they feel the same way about you it's special. I know Tyler's got that. He's got an angel in Haley so their marriage and their day at some point this summer, it's going to be incredible."
WW: Brian, will you and your wife have kids soon?
Brian Kelley: "We have some fur babies. We have some German shepherds and they're taking up our time, but in the future, way, way, way down the road, we'd love to if we're blessed enough to do that. We're not planning on it, but you know, life's crazy."
