Who says you have to lace up your shoes and head to the gym for a good workout? When you have little ones at home, every trip to the playground has the potential to turn into an intense workout session. While celeb moms' movie careers are often dependent on them being physically fit, their fitness routines often mirror our own playground activities. In honor of summer and long days in the park, we've rounded up our favorite fit moms and are taking a look at how they maintain their screen-worthy bodies.
It's rare to see Garner out with her kids when one of them isn't perched on her hip. Whether playing on the playground with her kids or carrying them around town, the mom of three is always on the go. She once told Self that even though she makes time to exercise, she doesn't beat herself up if she misses a day: "It's not like I'm trying to get into Elektra shape."
The new face of CoverGirl is getting ready to go on tour to support her new album, and she's never looked better. But the songstress and mother to daughter Willow Sage Hart says it isn't easy. "I have the time (to exercise) but I have this thing where I look at Willow and I go, 'Should I go to the gym or hang out with you? I think I'm going to hang out with you.'"
With a new album out and a tour on the horizon, Stefani has plenty on her plate, but she certainly makes time to take care of herself. She recently told Harper's Bazaar, "I hate talking about my body [all the time]; it's ridiculous. There is no secret: you just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself! But it's more for my brain than it is for my body. I like to wear clothes too much, so I try to keep focused."
Since giving birth to baby Flynn, the Victoria's Secret model looks better than ever. She's said, "I like to keep healthy and active. I did gymnastics growing up, and I've practiced yoga for years - around 12 to 14 years already - and I like to work my body out and keep it in good condition. I love going for walks and like to do fun active things outdoors."
At 44 years old, the Mirror Mirror star works hard to keep her body in shape. The mom of three has said, "You make these people and you love them and you want them around for a thousand years, and you want to be there for them for a thousand years." So she works with trainer Kathy Kaehler on a combination of aerobics and body work so she can keep up with her kids.
A devoted fitness enthusiast (she's even part-owner of a chain of gyms) Paltrow is not one for cutting corners. A follower of the Tracy Anderson method, she told UK's The Sun, "I do it every day -- well, I do it five days a week. So I drop the kids at school and I come home; I exercise for an hour and 15 minutes every single day." Paltrow knows that the key to keeping in shape is consistency: "There's no fairy dust - it's like you do it and it works."
Hudson keeps active despite her jet-setting lifestyle. Whether going for a bike ride with parents or taking the scooter out with her eldest son, Ryder Robinson, she finds a way to work exercise into her schedule. She once said, "It's important to be conscious of your health and not indulge too much in the things that are bad for you. Do I mind having my appearance constantly scrutinized? I don't have enough time on this planet to worry about things like that. I'm more concerned with if I'm raising my son properly, with what makes my family happy, with what makes me happy."
