Kiefer Sutherland made his first appearance on a red carpet since his alleged assault against designer Jack McCollough on May 15.
The actor made the rounds outside the Waldorf Theatre in L.A. Tuesday to promote the release of 24's Season 7 DVD, and he opened up to Usmagazine.com about how he handles media scrutiny.
"I've seen that with my dad [actor Donald Sutherland], and I think [with] a lot of things, I was really lucky," he told Us. "I was lucky enough when I started that I knew what was coming. I really love to work, and I can't tell you how grateful for everything it has done for me. You know it's coming down the pike and you accept it."
Although Sutherland was charged with assault on Thursday, his rep released a statement Monday that the charges against him were "untruthful."
"We are confident ... that the investigation being conducted by the Manhattan District Attorneys Office and the NYPD will confirm that Kiefer Sutherland was neither the instigator nor a wrongdoer in this incident, his rep told Us. "Out of respect for this law enforcement process, Kiefer Sutherland will not be making any comment."
Sutherland did tell Us that despite unwelcome attention, he tries to keep his priorities straight.
"Just focus on the work and your family and friends," he said.
The 42-year-old actor is scheduled to start filming the eighth season of the hit fox show in late May, and he's uncertain if it will be the final 24.
"I can tell you that we are so focused on Season 8 and getting it running," he told Us. "No one has entertained the thought about the potential Season 9. For us, the task is so monumental for the writers. We do one season at a time."
