Nicole Richie is headed back to the small screen.
The former "Simple Life" star, 28, is headlining a half-hour sitcom in development at ABC, according to Variety.
The pilot centers around a professional woman with complicated family relationships who is struggling to figure out what role she'll take as her life and her family evolve.
Variety reports the show will be loosely based on Richie's own life.
Richie, who is now recovering from a bout with pneumonia, had the initial idea for the pilot and will serve as producer as well, according to the report.
Richie -- who is working on her second novel, as well as the debut of her clothing collection and shoe line -- welcomed her second child, Sparrow, in September. She and beau Joel Madden welcomed daughter Harlow in 2008.
