President Barack Obama has thanked Colombian pop star Shakira for joining his committee to provide the best education for Hispanics living in America.
Shakira has long been involved with educational issues in her homeland through her Barefoot Foundation, and has ensured students in Haiti and South Africa have access to nutritious meals as well as educational and psychological support services.
And her work with children has caught the eye of the American leader, who has made her a member of his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.
