Hey, girl: Only one person gets to call Eva Mendes "baby," kay? Ryan Gosling reportedly lost his trademark cool recently when another man used an intimate term of endearment for his girlfriend Eva Mendes. According to the New York Post's Page Six, the real-life couple and Place Beyond the Pines costars were at NYC's Bowery Hotel last Friday, March 29 when a male fashion photographer, who'd recently shot Mendes, 39, greeted her with a "Hey, baby!"
"Ryan completely flipped out, and it got heated," an eyewitness is quoted as saying in the Post. Mendes' hunky boyfriend, 32, "got in the guy's face and said, 'Who are you calling baby?'"
Mendes eventually had to intervene, the eyewitness says, to "calm everyone down before it came to fisticuffs. Ryan then made nice and shook the guy's hand."
The couple, who got together while shooting director Derek Cianfrance's film, are typically more low-key -- and private -- about their real-life romance. At Thursday night's afterparty for the film, also held at the Bowery Hotel, the couple took pains to stay separate, celebrating with their own individual posses as they stole momentary glances at one another.
"They decided they were going to do what they needed to for the movie and get out as soon as possible," a source told Us Weekly. "They didn't want to make a spectacle out of their relationship out of respect for Derek and his movie. They bummed that that's where the focus has gone."
