Tim Lambesis claims he was set up. In North San Diego County Superior Court on Thursday, May 9, the As I Lay Dying singer pleaded not guilty to solicitation of murder after allegedly paying an undercover agent $1,000 to kill his wife, the Associated Press reports.
The 32-year-old heavy metal musician was arrested on Tuesday at a retail store in Oceanside, Calif., after he was reportedly recorded telling agent "Red" he wanted his estranged wife, Meggan Lambesis, murdered. The operation was set up after Lambesis complained to a man at his gym that he wanted his wife killed because she was making their divorce difficult and forbid him from seeing their three adopted children. (Meggan filed for divorce in September 2012 after eight years of marriage.)
Defense attorney Anthony Salerno told reporters that Lambesis was set up by the man at the gym. "Law enforcement was being fed something by someone that I strongly believe was a snitch, was out to save his own skin and was trumping things up, exaggerating things," he said.
Lambesis' bail has been set at $3 million. A judge said he will be under strict travel restrictions and have to wear a GPS monitoring device if he is released.
