The Hollywood Reporter -- Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and The Hunger Games producer Color Force, run by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, have teamed up to pick up the rights to Where'd You Go, Bernadette, the acclaimed novel by Maria Semple.
Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the duo who wrote (500) Days of Summer, will write the screenplay.

Semple will executive produce along with Color Force's Bryan Unkeless and Annapurna's Ted Schipper.
Semple's novel was released Dec. 21 and became an immediate best-seller and generated rave reviews for its comedic tale of a brilliant but slightly unhinged woman, a once-famous Los Angeles architect-turned-recluse who abruptly disappears, leaving her Microsoft-guru husband and devoted eighth-grade daughter determined to find her. The story is told as a collection of letters, e-mails, texts and other documents.
Bernadette was selected as one The Hollywood Reporter 's dozen best Hollywood-related books of 2012.
"It is so rare to find a book that is as original as it is moving and whose storytelling is as innovative as its characters are rich, Jacobson said in making the announcement. "I'm very grateful to be collaborating with Megan Ellison to bring Maria's extraordinary book to the screen. We are off to a great start with Neustadter and Weber, whose voices and creative agility make them a perfect match for Bernadette."
Semple described herself as "bouncy with excitement" and gushed about the scribes who will be tackling her novel. "If any screenwriters can figure out the Gordian knot that is the adaptation of &lsquoWhere'd You Go, Bernadette,' it's Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber," she said.
UTA and Anna Stein of Aitken Alexander repped Semple.
Neustadter and Weber are repped by CAA, and Kaplan/Perrone Myman Greenspan Entertainment.
