Don Cheadle: A Leading Man on a Mission in Darfur
By Drew Mackie
The atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan have made headlines and captured international interest -- although not at the rate human rights advocates would like. Actor Don Cheadle (Oscar-nominated for "Hotel Rwanda") has since 2004 been working to use his star power to inform the world of how bad the situation is in Darfur, even founding the advocacy group NotonOurWatch.org with his "Ocean's 11" costars George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt to further this effort. Read why Cheadle thinks this June 20, World Refugee Day, is a time when all people should learn about Darfur and should work to stop the tragedy there.
On why he's fighting the good fight, this June 20 and year-round:
"Maybe it's my own personality, my own makeup, but I will feel like we will have done something when it's over, and when human rights abuses have ended."
