WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is set to attend the White House Correspondents' Association dinner Saturday night — a gathering of journalists, government officials, politicians and media personalities in what's typically an evening of light-hearted banter and celebrity gawking.

This year's event comes at a somber time, following the Boston Marathon bombing and the deadly fertilizer plant explosion in Texas.

At the 1995 dinner, held in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing, President Bill Clinton dispensed with the traditional humor to remember victims and praise journalists for their coverage of the explosion.

TV talk-show host Conan O'Brien is the featured entertainer at the dinner this year.
