The politicians are using the term "Trump derangement syndrome" for people's strong disapproval of Donald Trump's decisions.According to documents, the condition is an "acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal persons that is in reaction to the policies and presidencies of President Donald J. Trump."
_
The proposal attempts to paint strong reactions to Donald Trump as a form of psychosis."Symptoms may include Trump-induced general hysteria, which produces an inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and signs of psychic pathology in President Donald J. Trump's behavior," the documents read.

The term "derangement syndrome" isn't new, as the phrase has been used to describe people who disapprove of Donald Trump in the past. However, commentator Charles Krauthammer made it mainstream when discussing negative perceptions of then-president George W. Bush.

However, X users didn't approve of the Republicans' recent motion."Minnesota Republicans introduced a bill that would classify 'Trump derangement syndrome' as a mental illness," one user penned. "They are trying to control how you think. Definitely not a cult."
_
Due to the language of the bill, one X user viewed it as a way to diminish mental health issues in the U.S.
"We live in the dumbest society in the history of civilization. Something called 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' as an official mental illness diminishes actual mental illness and turns anything the ruling political party doesn't like into 'mental illness,'" they wrote.
_
Meanwhile, others fumed about the potential bill being brought up in the first place."FACT: Trump Derangement Syndrome is a condition of his supporters. NOT his enemies," someone shared.
"Minnesota senate republicans are trying to put forth bill 2589 'Trump Derangement Syndrome addition to the definition of mental illness,'" another pointed out. "They want a bill that makes criticizing or hating Trump for his policies a symptom of mental illness. But they're definitely not in a cult."
