Michael Rapaport's name was trending on Twitter after he captured video of a man brazenly shoplifting at a New York City Rite Aid and walking right past a security officer who also witnessed the thievery.
"What did I just witness?" the controversial comedian captioned the profanity-laced 45-second video. (Watch it here.) "Dude went straight shopping."
The video shows a man walking right past a security guard and out the door after apparently filling up two bags with stolen goods. The guard doesn't try to stop the thief, who also doesn't seem to have a care in the world.
"I can't believe I'm seeing this [expletive]. … This [expletive] guy just filled his two bags up with everything in Rite Aid, right here on 80th and First Avenue is walking down the street," Michael says in the video.
"Looking me in my face like, 'What's good?' My man just went Christmas shopping in January. He had the condoms, the shampoo," he continued.
Michael, who tagged new New York City Mayor Eric Adams in his Instagram post, later added, "I was just informed this Rite Aid is closing 2/15 because of this, leaving the workers JOBLESS."
Mayor Adams — a retired police officer who's been on the job for about three weeks — promised while campaigning that he would crack down on crime in The Big Apple.
A rep for Rite Aid told TMZ, "The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority, and we are grateful that no one was harmed in this situation. We are in the process of conducting a full investigation and will work with local law enforcement to identify and pursue this offender."
The statement continued, "Like all retailers, we've seen a much higher level of brazen shoplifting and organized retail crime over the last year, and we are taking an active role in helping law enforcement pursue these offenders as well as working with other retailers and local leaders to push for stronger legislation to deter these types of crimes."
