Richard Simmons is sweatin' the cost of a lost lawsuit.

Last September, the fitness guru-turned-recluse was ordered by a judge to pay a media company's legal fees after he lost a highly-publicized defamation case. To date, Richard hasn't paid, and he's refusing to pay.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, Richard is staring at a $221,888 tab, which is owed to American Media. In newly submitted legal documents, he claims the fee is excessive and it's based off an exaggerated number of hours and duplicative work.
The "Sweatin' to the Oldies" host has asked for the number to be reduced.

This is just the latest chapter in an 18-month story. In July 2016, the National Enquirer, which is owned by American Media, published a story in which it claimed Richard was transitioning from male to female. It claimed that he got breast implants and was living as a woman named Fiona.
In May 2017, Richard sued American Media, saying that the story was "cruel and malicious," and that the company published stories about him "in a hurtful campaign of defamations and privacy invasions."
American Media asked for the case to be tossed.
In late August last year, a judge ruled in favor of American Media, saying that calling someone transgender is not defamatory. According to TMZ, the judge added that misidentifying someone as transgender doesn't inherently expose someone to "hatred, contempt or ridicule."
As if that wasn't a big enough blow, Richard was also ordered to cover attorney costs and any other court fees incurred by the Enquirer.
A judge has yet to rule on Richard's latest claim.
