Donald Trump is gaining more support in Greenland than initially thought.As the President of the United States continues to express his desire to annex the island, some natives are shockingly eager to have ties to America, while the idea completely revolts others.

Despite the backlash, the New York Post conducted interviews on Thursday, March 27, with Greenland citizens who want Donald Trump to take the land over from the Danish."For the American people, the highest-ranking valuable thing you can give another country is to be part of the United States," one anonymous person — who lives in the area of Nuuk — said. "When Donald Trump says, 'You can even join the United States' — that's the most valuable thing Donald Trump is saying he can give up."
However, many residents don't want anyone to know they support the Republican leader. "I can't say that," they added. "It's like I will be killed. It's f****** crazy times here in Greenland; the fearmongering, the divide and conquer of the media has been crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy."

According to Donald Trump fan Lars Kleist, the media is Greenland is heavily dominated by the Danish. "I think we need change here in Greenland. We are tired of the Danish colonialism," he explained to the outlet. "When you enter the town, everything is ruled by the Danish."Kleist claimed he was laid off from his job in 2020 because of his independent political views. "I hope that the United States will have an influence in Greenland," he made clear.

Another avid Donald Trump supporter Jorgen Boassen — who advocates for closer ties between America and Greenland — said, "Only one country can protect us — the U.S.""And the U.S. economy gives more potential to increasing incomes per person, maybe up to 40% in the future," he explained to the outlet. "The next generation don't want to speak Danish; they want to speak more English. I think they would have better possibilities [if they were] to go to education in the United States."

While there are many people hopeful about an American takeover, others are not as thrilled."The very aggressive American pressure against Greenlandic society is now so serious that the level cannot be raised any higher," Prime Minister Mute B. Egede recently told the Sermitsiaq newspaper about members of Donald Trump's administration planning to visit Greenland. "Until recently, we could trust the Americans, who were our allies and friends and with whom we enjoyed working closely. But that time is over."

The head of American Daybreak Group Tom Dans — who worked in Donald Trump's first administration as the Arctic commissioner for the Treasury Department — emphasized how The Apprentice alum's biggest concern is security when it comes to taking over Greenland."We're supporting them if they move toward independence," he explained to the outlet. "President Trump has been unambiguous that he has [Greenlanders'] back. Whatever they lose from Denmark, he would replace tenfold. And he's always going to give them security and protection. We want Greenlanders to begin to compete under their own flag at the Olympics and World Cup."
