In a statement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Donald Trump's crackdown on visas for Chinese students studying in America."Under President Trump's leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields," he made clear. "We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong."

In March, Republican Representative Riley Moore was the first to introduce legislation to stop allowing Chinese students to get an education at United States universities."The CCP poses an existential threat to the U.S.," the politician from West Virginia wrote on X following Marco Rubio's announcement. "We should not be letting 300,000 Chinese nationals into our research institutions every year. This is a huge move from the Trump Admin and now Congress must codify the president's agenda by passing my Stop CCP Visas Act."
When trying to introduce a bill over the matter earlier this year, Moore alleged Beijing's 2017 National Intelligence Law orders any Chinese organization or citizen to support, assist and work with the state intelligence operation.
"We've literally invited the CCP to spy on our military, steal our intellectual property and threaten national security," the right-winger claimed at the time. "Just last year, the FBI charged five Chinese nationals here on student visas after they were caught photographing joint US-Taiwan live fire military exercises. This cannot continue."

The update comes after Marco Rubio, Donald Trump and the administration reportedly ordered all American embassies and consulates to pause any visa applicant interviews for foreign learners for the time being."Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor … visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued [separate telegram], which we anticipate in the coming days," the internal cable obtained by Politico stated.

The student visa issue with Donald Trump and his administration became evident when Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the cancelation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) at Harvard, forcing international students to return to their home countries. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White later issued a nationwide injunction halting the action."This administration is holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus," she alleged about the Ivy League school in a Thursday, May 22, statement. "It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowments."
