Happy Gilmore 2 reportedly snagged 46.7 million views in its opening weekend on Netflix, where fans also tuned in to the original Happy Gilmore, which scored 11.4 million views after the sequel debuted. Happy Gilmore 2 is now the best opening for an Adam Sandler project on the streaming platform.

Fans on X couldn't stop gushing about Happy Gilmore 2. "Happy Gilmore 2 was actually good," one user wrote. "Happy Gilmore 2 was exactly what I expected it to be, and I loved it," another said.

"The message in Happy Gilmore 2 is that bettering yourself [and] taking care of your family is the real way to be cool," one fan wrote. "A male-centric sports movie [and] doesn't have a single sexist joke. He cast his own daughters, wife, his friends [and] their relatives. Adam Sandler is a real man [and] the GOAT." Chimed in yet another fan, "I am so very pleased to report that Happy Gilmore 2 doesn't suck and is genuinely funny with a lot of heart. It's not on par with the original, but only being a few strokes behind after three decades away is honestly a gigantic win for modern feature-length comedies."

Happy Gilmore 2 co-writer Tim Herlihy discussed the creativity process in an interview. "There's no such thing as perfection, so when you want to revisit something, it's not like 'This stinks.' It's 'I know it can be better because
everything can be better,'" he told
Variety. "Even the script of 'The Godfather' could have been
even better."
