Per an internal cable, Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued the order to pause all student visas."Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor … visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued [separate telegram], which we anticipate in the coming days," the memo read. "Those who support designated terrorist organizations, including Hamas, threaten our national security. The United States has zero tolerance for foreign visitors who support terrorists."

In recent months, Donald Trump has fought with many Ivy League schools across America and tried to pull funding if they did not comply with his orders when it came to punishment for protestors, doing away with D.E.I. and more. Now, the State Department and Department of Homeland Security are attempting to revoke thousands of visas from foreign students."We don't speak about individual visa cases," State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce explained in an interview. "We take very seriously the process of vetting who it is that comes into the country. And we're going to continue to do that and again, whether they be student[s] or if you're a tourist who needs a visa, or whoever you are, we're going to be looking at you."
Despite the stricter requirements, Bruce claims people will still be able to enter the country if they follow and pass the correct process. "It seems to be such a controversial thing that's going on, but it shouldn't be and every nation should take seriously and does, who's coming in. So, if you're going to be applying for a visa, follow the normal process, the normal steps, expect to be looked at and we go on from there," she made clear.

On Thursday, May 22, Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the cancelation of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) at Harvard. In a statement, Kristi Noem issued a statement as to why Donald Trump and his administration were taking extreme action against Harvard and his students."This administration is holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus," she alleged in a statement. "It is a privilege, not a right, for universities to enroll foreign students and benefit from their higher tuition payments to help pad their multibillion-dollar endowments. Harvard had plenty of opportunity to do the right thing. It refused. Let this serve as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country."
