Minutes before Bobbi Kristina Brown took the stage at the Billboard Music Awards to accept the Millennium prize on behalf of her mom, Whitney Houston, a scuffle nearly broke out in the audience.
According to TMZ, the late singer's family was upset because they were seated in proximity to her sometime boyfriend, Ray J, whom they believe was a "very bad influence" on her.
Word is, security was called in and told to "physically remove" Ray J, but he remained firmly planted, despite the protestations of Whitney's sister-in-law, Pat.
But the situation was apparently defused as the countdown to the tribute began and worries of an ugly public scene ramped up. Ray J stayed in his seat during Bobbi Kristina's brief but emotional speech.
"Pat ruined what was a great opportunity to honor the woman who I loved," Ray J is quoted as telling pals.
But a Houston family rep assures E! News that the squabble story has been greatly exaggerated.
"They were there to honor Whitney -- that was the only focus they had for the evening," insists the rep. "Ray J wasn't even a thought. Billboard Awards did all the seating and the Houstons never had any issues of any kind."
