Following a string of legal obstacles, Donald Trump got some good news on March 25: The $454 million bond he was ordered to pay for being liable in a New York fraud case was reduced to $175 million — and he was given an extra 10 days to settle up.
Then, on April 1, his attorney Alina Habba confirmed that Trump had secured a $175 million bond and had posted it, which secures his assets from seizure while he's appealing. "He looks forward to vindicating his rights on appeal and overturning this unjust verdict," Habba said in a statement.
The development came after Trump's team said it was "impossible" for him to secure a bond, but also after he claimed to have $500 million in cash. Had Trump not been able to satisfy the $454 million fine before the reduction and 10-day extension, New York Attorney General Letitia James could have started seizing the former president's assets.
Following the extension, many of the former POTUS's staunchest Congressional supporters celebrated the reduction but still labeled Trump a victim.

After paying his $175 million bond, Donald Trump wrote about it on his Truth Social account.
"I've just posted a 175 Million Dollar Bond with the sadly failing and very troubled State of New York, based on a Corrupt Judge and Attorney General who used a Statute that was never used for this before, where no Jury was allowed, my financial statements were conservative and had a 100% perfect caution/non-reliance clause, there were no victims (except me!), there was no crime or damage, there was only success and HAPPY BANKS," he began his lengthy post.
"The case was a fabricated ELECTION INTERFERENCE con job, so bad for New York, where businesses are fleeing and violent crime is flourishing. The Crooked Judge, to suit his narrative, valued Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, at $18,000,000, when it is worth 50 to 100 times that amount. He ruled I was guilty before he ever saw the case. He should be disbarred, and Letitia James, who campaigned on getting TRUMP, Impeached. Also posted a 91 Million Dollar Bond on another New York Fake Case, money I can't use on my campaign. Just what Crooked Joe wanted. WITCH HUNT!" he concluded his message.
