Where is it?
Sarah Ferguson is reportedly on a wellness retreat at Paracelsus Recovery in Zurich, Switzerland. She has not been seen in public since her brief appearance at her granddaughter Athena Mapelli Mozzi's christening at St. James's Palace on December 12.According to the Daily Mail, she has spent most of that time at the renowned Swiss clinic.
A source told the publication, "Sarah left for Zurich just after Christmas, and stayed until the end of January."
How much does it cost?
The Swiss treatment center, which markets itself as "discreet," offers weekly programs costing roughly $122,000 to $154,000. Each client is supported by at least 15 professionals, including doctors, therapists and other specialists, according to its website.Managing director Jan Gerber explained to The Telegraph that the high cost reflects the individualized treatment each client receives.
"There are clients who wouldn't agree to rehab under any other circumstances," he said. "If you're a billionaire who has never changed your own bed sheets, going to a facility where you're sharing a room and doing your own laundry isn't necessarily going to help cure your illness any more than sending someone who's never gone camping to undergo treatment in a tent."
What does the facility specialize in?
Paracelsus Recovery specializes in treating conditions such as addiction, burnout, depression, anxiety and trauma, and is often cited as the world's most expensive wellness clinic."Celebrities, oligarchs and royalty who stay here are given top-tier treatment and access to the best addiction treatment providers anywhere," the clinic notes on its website.
What perks are included?
At the clinic, clients stay in private lakefront penthouses and enjoy amenities such as a personal chef. Other perks include allowing guests to keep their phones, accommodating their staff in a nearby luxury hotel and fulfilling nearly any request.Speaking to The Telegraph, Jan Gerber recalled a high-profile American talk show host struggling with alcoholism who was admitted to Paracelsus — and how the clinic went above and beyond for her.
Each week, the facility arranged flights for her to the U.S. for television appearances before returning her to Zurich to continue treatment.
Why did Sarah Ferguson go there?
A Swiss source told the Daily Mail that Sarah Ferguson has a "strong relationship with Paracelsus, so it was the obvious place for her to get away from everything.""She always feels at home at Paracelsus, and knows she'll get love and attention there, as well as expert health treatment when she's feeling at her most vulnerable," another insider added.
In 2025, the former duchess took part in the clinic's promotional activities, appearing in a social media video with Jan Gerber. She explained that the trauma from her childhood, public scrutiny and her cancer diagnosis led her to pursue mental health support.
During her stay, she was reportedly diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
