Meghan Markle was slammed for using a "DS" monogram tote in Washington, D.C, which critics believe is the former actress using her Duchess of Sussex title as initials.

Thanks to @fortunempw, my team, D.C., and my sweet friends for the 24 hours of impact (and fun!)," Meghan Markle, who traveled to the nation's capital to speak at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit and discuss her brand, As Ever, wrote in her caption.

But critics rushed to X to complain about Meghan Markle's purse. "Please don't tell me she had a bag made with the initials DS for Duchess of Sussex? Didn't she say in the Fortune monologue that she was 'recovering from her time in the institution?'" one user wrote. "So heinously tacky," another complained. Griped a third critic, "Not even the real original royals have that LOL. It's pathetic."

Meghan Markle's use of the Duchess of Sussex title is often frowned upon since she ditched the U.K. in 2020. An official statement said at the time of
Prince Harry and Meghan's royal exit, "The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the royal family." A source claimed the couple still "retain their HRH titles; however, by agreement, they do not use them for commercial purposes."
