1. Title change
Queen Camilla will be replaced by
Kate Middleton as queen consort once
Prince William becomes king, as the Prince and Princess of Wales are next in line for the throne. Due to Camilla being a royal by marriage and not blood, she will be known as a queen dowager, a title used for a king's widow.
2. William in charge
Once
Prince William becomes king, he will be in charge of how royal duties are assigned. "The new King William would call all the shots; it would be down to him, in accordance with his father's and stepmother's wishes. But every aspect of her public and private life would be reviewed," royal expert
Joe Little has
said.
3. It's Kate's time to shine
Once
Prince William and Kate Middleton transition into their new roles, Queen Camilla will be expected to make space for the Princess Wales to carve out her legacy. Camilla will likely take on fewer engagements while Kate takes on more forward-facing duties.
4. Moving out
Queen Camilla will likely move to a private estate once
Prince William becomes king. She and King Charles III currently reside at Clarence House, where William might decide to live after his father dies.
Some things never change
One thing that's unlikely to change? Queen Camilla's charity work. Throughout her career as a royal, she's prioritized non-profits for domestic violence victims, literacy and more.
Prince William isn't expected to interfere with his stepmother's charitable efforts, though as Joe Little has said, there will be "lots of discussion with the new monarch."
