A tourist snapped a photo of Elvis Presley's gravestone in the Meditation Garden at Graceland in 1985 — eight years after The King died.
In August 2023, court documents filed after Riley Keough and grandmother Priscilla Presley reached a settlement over the estate of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley — who died in January 2023 — revealed that Priscilla's wish to someday be buried at Graceland as near as possible to ex-husband Elvis had been granted despite earlier reports to the contrary. Priscilla previously told TMZ in a statement, "Although I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon, it is my family's and my wish for me to be laid to rest with my daughter [Lisa Marie] and the love of my life when that time comes."

On July 13, 2023 — six months after her passing — the Los Angeles County Coroner finally confirmed her cause of death: An L.A. Medical Examiner document obtained by TMZ listed sequelae (which means a condition that's the consequence of a previous disease or injury) of small bowel obstruction. Soon after, more information was released, specifying that Lisa Marie had a strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery she'd had years earlier, TMZ reported. The medical examiner's report further noted that Lisa Marie was prescribed opioids following a cosmetic procedure she'd undergone a few months before her death. It said she had a history of "overmedicating" and forgetting she'd taken her meds, which sometimes led her to take them again. The report further noted Lisa Marie had a history of drug and alcohol abuse.
Toxicology report findings showed therapeutic levels of Oxycodone in Lisa Marie's blood as well as a second opioid, Buprenorphine, which is used to treat opioid overuse. TMZ further explained that "opioids can cause constipation, which can lead to bowel obstruction, which was the cause of her death." Tests also found traces of the antipsychotic drug Quetiapine.

After months of fighting and heartache, Priscilla and Riley resolved their issues: TMZ reported on May 16, 2023, that Lisa Marie's estate had paid an undisclosed sum — sources said it was in the millions — to Priscilla to settle the dispute. "The families are happy. Everybody is happy and excited for the future," Priscilla's attorney announced after the court hearing.
