Late-night continues to see massive changes amid Donald Trump's second term.As rumors swirl about Jon Stewart possibly being fired from The Daily Show while Paramount seemingly continues to appease the Republican president to get approval for their merger with Skydance, the Comedy Central series is welcoming a new anchor who will be hosting the show for a small period of time.

While Jon Stewart will host The Daily Show at the start of the week, staff writer and correspondent Josh Johnson will be behind the news desk Tuesday through Thursday.The stand-up star joined the show in 2017 and has been an outspoken critic of Donald Trump. In a 2024 segment, Johnson questioned African American voters about the right-winger's tone-deaf comments on race.

Following the shocking cancelation of Stephen Colbert's The Late Show after CBS and Paramount settled a $16 million lawsuit with Donald Trump, speculation ran rampant that Jon Stewart could be next on the chopping block."The fact that CBS didn't try to save their number one rated late-night franchise that's been on the air for over three decades is part of what's making everybody wonder, was this purely financial or maybe the path of least resistance for your $8 billion merger," Stewart said slamming the company during a broadcast of the Comedy Central series. "If you believe you can make yourselves so innocuous, so flavorless, you are f****** wrong."
"Shows that say something, shows that take a stand, shows that are unafraid — this is not a 'We speak truth to power.' We don't," he continued. "We speak opinions to television cameras. But we try. We f****** try, every night.

In a stunning move by CBS and Paramount, Stephen Colbert announced The Late Show would be coming to an end in May 2026 after being on the air since 1993.After Donald Trump rejoiced about the decision, the host ripped the businessman to shreds. "How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism? "Go f*** yourself," Colbert said during a recent broadcast.
