In an interview with podcaster Benny Johnson, Speaker Mike Johnson was asked whether he would support efforts to subpoena the Justice Department for documents tied to the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases. "I'm for transparency," he said, adding that "it's a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide."

The FBI and DOJ recently completed a "systematic review" of the Jeffrey Epstein case. The report concluded there was "no credible evidence" that Epstein "blackmailed prominent individuals" before he died in jail on August 10, 2019. The document also included surveillance footage from the prison, indicating that no one entered Epstein's cell the night he died.

President Donald Trump, who previously criticized the files as "written by Barack Obama, Crooked Hillary Clinton, James Comey, John Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Joe Biden Administration," has now asked his followers to move on from the case. "She's handled it very well. And it's going to be up to her, whatever she thinks is credible, she should release," Trump said, referring to Attorney General Pam Bondi's handling of the case.

While Mike Johnson advocates for transparency, he also stands by President Donald Trump's decision on the issue. "Look, [former President Ronald Reagan] used to tell us we should trust the American people, and I believe in that principle. I know President Trump does as well, and I trust him," he said. "I mean, he put together a team of his choosing, and they're doing a great job." He added that, although he hasn't "been involved" and isn't "privy to facts," he agrees that information needs to be released.
