Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are about to be proud parents of a college graduate — of course, the graduation ceremony isn't exactly what they had in mind when he started at New York University four years ago.
To commemorate the occasion, the "Live With Kelly and Ryan" host posted a tribute to her 22-year-old son, Michael, sharing a throwback picture from his high school graduation in 2016.
"Fours years passed in the blink of an eye and today you take your final final exam in college," she captioned the image. "Congratulations Michael! You're a virtual graduate. Literally!"
NYU, where Michael studied film, will have a virtual commencement ceremony amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Michael has actually been putting his film studies to use, as he's been helping his mother produce her morning talk show while quarantining at home.
"We've had some quarantine anxiety in our house lately, but I think it's stemming more from my end of things because I realize that my firstborn child is graduating from college in a couple of days and it's definitely not what we expected," Kelly said on her show on Friday. "There's going to be an online — I'm not sure how it's going to work — but there's going to be an online ceremony of some kind."
The talk show host acknowledged that she's disappointed the family couldn't throw a proper party to celebrate Michael. In fact, she's probably more upset about it than her son.
"In typical Michael fashion, [he] said, 'It's not a big deal. As long as I still get my degree, it's fine.' Because I think a lot of kids are really devastated and rightly so that they worked so hard and they're not getting to have their big day," Kelly told her viewers. "But he truly doesn't seem bothered at all."
Kelly and Mark's daughter, Lola Consuelos, also attends NYU.
