Although Elon Musk tried to downplay his disapproval of some of Donald Trump's controversial actions, the tech mogul emphasized how they differed on certain matters while working together."It's not like I agree with everything the administration does," he explained. "So, it's like, I mean, I agree with much of what the administration does. But we have differences of opinion."
"There are things that I don't entirely agree with, but it's difficult for me to bring that up in an interview because then it creates a bone of contention," Musk added. "Then I'm a little stuck in a bind where I'm like, well, I don't want to, you know, speak up against the administration, but I also don't want to take responsibility for everything this administration's doing."

Elon Musk hinted that Donald Trump's tariff war with other countries was a topic they didn't exactly see eye to eye on. "You know, tariffs always affect things a little bit," the Tesla founder admitted. In a preview of the interview shared in late May, Musk also expressed his disappointment in the right-winger's support for the Republican-backed "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" after doing his best to cut government spending.
"I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, doesn't decrease it and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing," he said. "I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful. But I don't know if it could be both. My personal opinion."

During his time working for DOGE, Elon Musk took intense heat from the public for firing thousands of federal employees. According to the SpaceX owner, other issues with Donald Trump's administration began to get pinned on the agency he was trying to help."What was starting to happen was that, like, it's a bit unfair because, like, DOGE became the whipping boy for everything," he noted. "So, if there was some cut, real or imagined, everyone would blame DOGE. I've had people think that, like, somehow DOGE is going to stop them from getting their Social Security check, which is completely untrue."

Despite their differences, on Friday, May 30, Donald Trump bid Elon Musk a sentimental farewell in front of the press in the Oval Office."Elon is really not leaving. He's going to be back and forth," The Apprentice alum claimed.
Trump also handed the X owner a gold key in a wooden box with his name plastered on it, which the commander-in-chief claimed was only for "very special people."
"He had to go through the slings and arrows, which is a shame because he's an incredible patriot," Trump stated of the backlash the entrepreneur faced in the past year.
