'Les Miserables' Features Cruelty-Free Footwear, Thanks to Anne Hathaway
"You can't go hog wild as a vegan." That's how Anne Hathaway explained her decision to cut out all meat, dairy and fish products from her diet" while shooting "The Dark Knight Rises." The veganism must have come in handy when she had to lose 25 pounds to play Fantine, a dying prostitute, in "Les Miserables." "Handy," however, probably isn't the first word that comes to mind for the film's costume designer, Paco Delgado, who was stuck with the task of dressing the star of period piece in animal-free getups.
"We had to find very specific shoemakers to create lace-up boots and ankle boots," Delgado recently said in an interview with Footwear News. "We also did flats that were much more sophisticated." The red-carpet look, -- including the black, custom made gladiator boots Hathaway wore when she accidentally flashed her lady parts to photographers while getting out of her SUV -- was also created without harm to any animals. Guess she was plumb out of cruelty-free panties that day. (Celebitchy)
