Donald Trump is calling on Israel to cancel or pardon Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu's corruption trial, claiming he's done "so much for the State [of Israel]." According to Trump, the U.S. will "save" Netanyahu — just like it saved Israel during its conflict with Iran.

In 2019, Benjamin Netanyahu was indicted on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust — charges to which he has pleaded not guilty. President Donald Trump criticized the case on
Truth Social, writing on Wednesday, June 25, "Bibi Netanyahu's trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a Pardon given to a Great Hero, who has done so much for the State (of Israel)."

Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid has pushed back on President Donald Trump's comments, saying the U.S. president shouldn't interfere with the country's legal system: "With all due respect and gratitude to the president of the United States, he's not supposed to intervene in a legal process of an independent state," Lapid told Israeli outlet Ynet. "I hope and suppose that this is a reward [Trump] is giving him [Netanyahu] because he is planning to pressure him on Gaza and force him into a hostage deal that will end the war," he added.

While President Donald Trump praised Benjamin Netanyahu as a "warrior," he also clarified that "it was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu." Trump also referred to the charges against Netanyahu as a "witch hunt" — language he's used to describe his own legal battles.
