The news comes shortly after Eva Pilgrim announced her departure to join CBS' Inside Edition on Monday, July 7. On the same day, ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic confirmed that DeMarco Morgan would be leaving the network. "He has decided to begin a new journey and will be departing ABC News," Karamehmedovic reportedly wrote in a memo to staff. The back-to-back exits come just as GMA3 prepares to roll out its updated anchor rotation.

In recent months, GMA3 has reportedly seen staff cutbacks as part of cost-saving efforts. At the same time, ABC News has been doubling down on its Good Morning America brand, focusing more heavily on its secondary personalities in addition to the show's core anchors: George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan. During this transition, viewers have seen rotating GMA3 hosts including Lara Spencer, Sam Champion, Gio Benitez, Whit Johnson, Janai Norman and Will Reeve along with correspondents such as James Longman and Rachel Scott.
